I have considered if that is possible to implement as an external service if there is a posting API, it would be possible as well, e.g. using procmail and a api call in python or perl (or curl)

@Alexlehm one could likely implement a basic version of this today despite not having the ability to create posts via API with a browser automation library like playwright.

I was thinking Selenium maybe, but I didn’t get around to doing anything yet. phantomjs might also work

Can somebody please explain to me the benefit of making a blog post by sending an email? What problem does it solve?

Posting by email is useful for a quick post usually from mobile. Years ago I used a service called posterous which had posting by email and I used that to send pics with description from my mobile and improved the text later when I was at my computer. You can do something like that with a app for e.g. mastodon, but for a full blog usually you need the web page and that involves more steps

@Alexlehm I see. Thank you for explanation.

I’m leaning towards marking this feature as Won’t fix since the use-case is very limited. If people want a super shortcut for posting from mobile they can add https://bearblog.dev/dashboard/posts/new to their homescreen. This is arguably even easier than post by email and has fewer of the complexities and gotchas that come with parsing received email.

@Alexlehm can also be useful for posting from old computers easily because typing a blog post on an ancient computer would be satisfying.

@Herman A slightly more developed PWA would be great.

I find it difficult to use substack, and if bearblog had this feature it would be amazing. I think about this, because I would only have to have an email associated with my content in bearblog and send a newsletter directly through bearblog.

a substack like feature would be blog to email, the other direction
