This is currently available up to 10mb per video file (only mp4 and webm). If you are looking to embed larger files I’d suggest a video hosting service such as YouTube or Vimeo.

Are the video files compressed like images? (final file size)

Videos are not optimised, however there is a 10mb limit to uploads. For longer videos it is best to upload them to a video sharing service like YouTube, Vimeo, or any of the others and embed it in your blog.
